STATEMENT
My paintings are created with generous amounts of modeling paste (an acrylic gel mixed with clay) along with a variety of materials including acrylic paint, textiles and toys. These elements are combined to create a dynamic three dimensional painting.
I find inspiration for my work from art history, religious iconography, propaganda images, word plays, old sketchbooks and pop culture. Often a piece begins with a quote that inspires a sketch, other times it may be derived from an existing image I find compelling. Visually I strive for my work to be vivid, bold, and a have a sense of playful urgency no matter how dark the subject may be. I love the process of interpreting a classic artwork and new ideas into my colorful three dimensional style.
